To remind you of God’s love

“Turn your ear to listen to me; rescue me quickly.
Be my rock of protection, a fortress where I will be safe.”
Psalms 31:2, NLT.

God loves you very much. I wish there were a better way I could tell you, but this pretty much sums it up nicely. I feel we say those words often but don’t think deeply about what it means to us.

If you could ponder on the love of God for just a minute, what comes to your mind? Is it His protection, providence and preservation every passing day? Or is it something more specific? Whatever it is, I want you to bring that to the top of your mind and just hold it close.

This week has been such a rollercoaster ride for me. I have been on more highs and lows than I can count. I was talking to my friend, and the best way I could describe how I felt was that it felt like unhappiness was lurking just around the corner. A friend of mine said he felt he had stopped feeling anything and was just tired – on low energy and living the same day repeatedly. Another friend said she just felt like she wanted life to end… she was not depressed or suicidal, but life wasn’t just giving what it should. An amazing Christian influencer I follow lost her child to miscarriage, and I could not hold my tears. It was so painful. How would she even feel? I pray for the Holy Spirit to comfort her. 

It’s a lot. I am not trying to compare suffering because every pain you feel is valid to God. He remembers every one of them like He keeps each tear you have cried in a bottle (Psalms 56:8). God loves you so much. He does. Maybe when you think of the love of God, you remember how He protects, guides and provides for you, but He is so much more. God is EVERYTHING.

There may be contradictions in your life that may make it seem like God is absent, but in such times, He is closer than ever. Don’t let the pain blind you to His love. He loves you deeply, like a lover. He will take care of you. Please trust Him.

As I prayed yesterday, with low spirits and tears in my eyes, He told me these very words that I am about to leave with you –

Psalms 31 (MSG translation) is a prayer of restoration, and I want you to study and pray it over yourself. Here are some verses that stood out for me 

You’re my cave to hide in,
    my cliff to climb.
Be my safe leader,
    be my true mountain guide.
Free me from hidden traps;
    I want to hide in you.
I’ve put my life in your hands.
    You won’t drop me,
    you’ll never let me down.

I’m leaping and singing in the circle of your love; 
Desperate, I throw myself on you:
    you are my God!
Hour by hour I place my days in your hand,
    safe from the hands out to get me.
Warm me, your servant, with a smile;
    save me because you love me.
Don’t embarrass me by not showing up;
    I’ve given you plenty of notice. 

Trapped by a siege, I panicked.
    “Out of sight, out of mind,” I said.
But you heard me say it,
    you heard and listened. 

Love God, all you saints;
    God takes care of all who stay close to him,
But he pays back in full
    those arrogant enough to go it alone.

Be brave. Be strong. Don’t give up.
    Expect God to get here soon.

I pray that these words strengthen you and you remember that God has never stopped loving you; you only forget sometimes. As your heart finds comfort and deep joy in these words, may this reminder of His love be constant in your life in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
